Guide to Home Maintenance

A guide to provide people with advice about how to maintain their homes is now available in Trafford.

The home maintenance guide has been produced, at no additional cost to the Council, by the housing services team as the Council has a duty to address housing conditions. The idea is that the advice and guidance within the booklet will help improve housing conditions and raise awareness for owners, occupiers, tenants and landlords.

Within the guide there is information on how to maintain homes, carry out minor repairs, such as maintaining gullies and taps or water pipes, avoid problems and identify them as well as advice on when to get specialist advice or a contractor in to carry out more complicated works.

The guides will be available in all libraries and community centres and will be available on the Council’s website (www.trafford.gov.uk/housingstandards).

Executive Councillor Mike Cornes said: “This guide contains really useful advice and guidance for homeowners or tenants from small issues such as a dripping tap to bigger problems such as structural problems. By making this available for free this will hopefully go someway to encouraging owner occupiers to keep up maintenance of their homes to avoid small issues becoming big problems.

“I am delighted we have been able to produce this for our residents at no additional cost and would encourage people to pick up a copy and make full use of the practical advice on an array of household maintenance issues.”
