An Altrincham man has received half a million pounds in compensation after falling from his van in a horrific accident at work.

The York Press newspaper, is reporting that Colin White from Altrincham, in Greater Manchester, fell from his van while making deliveries in York, North Yorkshire.

Mr. White and a colleague had been using a hired vehicle to deliver furniture in the area but unlike the vans they normally used this one had been fitted with a tail lift, which neither man had any experience with.

Mr. White had operated the tail lift in order to gain access to the vehicles storage area but as he left the vehicle he stepped backwards, expecting the platform to be in the same position, unfortunately it had moved, causing Mr. White to tumble from the vehicle.

Mr. White suffered serious personal injury in the fall, which left him with temporary paralysis. Following surgery and extensive physiotherapy he is no longer paralysed but still suffers constant pain from his injuries.

His injuries have proven to be so debilitating, that he has been informed that he will probably never return to work.
